Fixing The Opening - Third Editing Session

Now we are halfway through our set editing sessions, to make sure we stay on track as our sequence takes longer to edit, we have planned an extra editing session outside of class time during the week. Today, our sequence began to take shape and became clear as a rough final visual. It does not include the sound Carl will be putting together making some moments feel awkward, however, we know this will vanish as we add in sound. As a group, we decided to go back to the opening of the sequence and stop avoiding it due to the continuity issues. In reality, this was a good idea as we returned to it with fresh minds and were able to work through it relatively quickly. We accounted for the continuity and got it as good as we could with what we had. Additionally, the group reviewed the work I did alone after the second editing session and picked out the parts they liked, disliked and what needed moving around. I thought that it really helped to create a guideline and give us a clear idea of how we wanted the shots to piece together when it comes to the editing. Although I was controlling the mouse, while swapping with the others, it was really good having the whole group there to give opinions and refine out ideas.

We ended up with around 1.40, leaving us 20 seconds left to edit. This is not an issue as we know we will add more 'real game' shots to emphasise the playing of football to equally combine the drama and sport elements to our chosen hybrid genre. Initially, we had wanted a handful of shots to be in slow motion in order to extend them, heighten tensions and highlight the action. However, while learning this new skills (right click, speed and duration then adjust the percentage), it became clear that it decreases the quality and, in some shots, where we planned to implement it, it adds an unwanted comedic undertone that diminishes the serious and tense moments created in other shots. For example, having the slide tackle in slow motion does not work as well as we had hoped as a part of it plays as comedy.
