Introduction to Myself

Hello, my name is Georgia Cook and this is my blog for my first year of media A-level. My other A-levels include Theatre studies and English literature at Hurtwood House. Unfortunately, I had to drop History despite my love for it. I have enjoyed media studies ever since I was a child, from creating music videos with my younger sister to a website, music video and social media account for a band as my GCSE coursework. I have lived abroad my entire life, in Qatar, Singapore and Dubai, but now I have come to England to be near family and continue my studies.

My interests lie within the performing arts, at 4 years old I began learning piano and have played it ever since. I also sing and dance often, but acting remains my favourite part of the performing arts. My greatest achievement has been singing with the BBC Singers at the BBC Proms in Dubai with my previous school's chamber choir.

My favorite aspect of media is TV and Music Videos, I find the composition extremely fascinating and the way the mise-en-scene communicates meaning is extremely interesting to me. Sadly, I don't have much time to sit and enjoy television or film that often as I spend a lot of time on my studies. As a result, I am slightly ashamed to admit that the time I do have, I spend watching 'trashy' reality tv and competition style shows, such as RuPaul's Drag Race, Love Island etc. I enjoy being able to switch off and escape busy days through them by having a laugh. Additionally, I love crime docuseries, some of my recent favorites have been: Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, Tiger King, Girls Incarcerated and The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez. Another element of media I love is editing, being able to sit down and lose track of time in video editing is very satisfying for me. 

I enjoy many genres of music, I love listening to alternative pop with artists such as BENEE, The Wallows and Rex Orange County. Growing up, I listened to a lot of rock music prior to the 2000's upon other genres with my dad. Other artists I like include: The 1975, George Ezra, Ben Platt, Bastille, Scouting for Girls and The Kooks.
